What We See

We go places.
     We make places.
          And they make us.
     Shape us,
Form us,
make us into what we will be,
          not meant to be,
     but wanted to be.
By who?
     By what?
          Don't ask me.
     I've never gone no where
I wasn't meant to go.
     Cuz they made me,
          Shaped me,
     into what I am now.
What you see now.

What do you see
when you look in that mirror?
          A face,
     a name,
a little-wet-tear.
     A tear in the mirror.
          And you fear
that all the places you went to,
games you played,
     but never meant to.
          Made you,
     shaped you,
into what you are now.
     How we see you now.

Did you want to do
those crazy things that you did.
          Did you mean to say
the nasty things that you said,
that she said.
Of the places she went to,
          the games that she played,
     but never meant to.
Cuz she wanted to,
     wanted you,
to see the places she went,
and the things that they meant.
But you don't see.
Cuz you think you don't need,
to see the things that she sees.
     Cuz you went places,
you made places,
     and they made you.
          Shaped you,
     formed you,
into what you will be,
     not meant to be,
          but wanted to be.
     By who?
By what?
     But we can't ask you,
cuz you don't see the truth.
     Cuz they made you,
shaped you,
     into what you are now.
          How they see you now.

And I have never gone nowhere
     I wasn't meant to go.
          But I played those games,
     back in those days,
and these days,
and you don't forget the days
          when you played the games
that you never meant to play.
Like the places you never meant to go,
     but they still take you,
          and make you,
     into what you will be,
not meant to be,
     but wanted to be.
          An apparition.
Of what you might have been.
In the end.
But you might never have been.
          A look in that mirror,
     and you fear
that we can't see you now,
cuz you don't see the truth now,
          and they've made you now,
     shaped you somehow,
into what you are now.
     What we see now.
          And we've forgotten,
     somehow,
what we see
     right now.
